Violinist David-Maria Gramse received his first lessons at age five. After highschool and a year of alternative service, he moved to Lübeck to study with Prof. Wilfried Laatz, followed by final studies at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Holland with Florian Donderer. He received essential inspiration at masterclasses with teachers such as Barbara Westphal, Nora Chastain and Walter Levin.
David-Maria Gramse particularly enjoys working in smaller ensembles ranging in size from duo to chamber orchestra and has devoted himself to the historically informed performance of ancient music. He has played with various ensembles and chamber orchestras on modern instruments (Ensemble Resonanz, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen) as well as on period instruments (Le Cercle de l‘Harmonie in Paris, the Baroque orchestra Elbipolis in Hamburg, the Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble and moderntimes_1800 in Vienna). An essential part of his chamber musical work has been the cooperation with accordionist Franka Herwig whose broad spectrum of repertoire encompasses works from Renaissance to contemporary music and thus mirrors David-Maria’s own musical diversity. David-Maria has been a member of Ensemble Resonanz since 2011.
