Tim-Erik Winzer was born in 1978 and grew up in Potsdam. At the age of six, he began playing the violin and switched to the viola at 16. He studied at the university of music in Weimar and the Hanns-Eisler School of Music in Berlin, with Prof. Ditte Leser and Prof. Erich Krüger.
As a member of the »Abraxas-Quartett«, he studied chamber music with Eberhard Feltz from 2001 to 2005 and worked with Hariolf Schlichtig and Thomas Kakuska among others. Since 2009, he has been principal violist at Ensemble Resonanz. He is also an avid chamber musician on both modern and period intruments and has committed himself to the project Spira Mirabilis.
