Tobias Rempe grew up in Nuremberg and began making music at the age of seven. During his violin studies, he co-founded Ensemble Resonanz, where he was an active musician for many years. In 2004 and 2005, he began working in the management team, one of his projects being the concert series »Kaispeicher entern!« which took place in the brick foundation of what later became the Elbphilharmonie. In 2008, he stepped away from playing the violin professionally and took on the role of Artistic Manager and Managing Director of Ensemble Resonanz gGmbH.
Under his leadership, the ensemble established itself as a top-tier chamber orchestra with a strong artistic profile and became an internationally recognized model for innovative formats and collaborative projects. Among other initiatives, he developed the urban string concert series, led the ensemble's move to the newly completed resonanzraum St. Pauli in 2014, and helped position the musicians as the Elbphilharmonie’s ensemble-in-residence following its opening in 2017.
From 2019 to 2024, Tobias Rempe served as the first chairman of FREO (Freie Ensembles und Orchester in Deutschland e.V.).
Starting in the summer of 2025, Tobias Rempe will become the Artistic Director of the Konzerthaus Berlin.
