Alban Berg's »Lyrische Suite« and Arnold Schoenberg's »Verklärte Nacht« with Jean-Guihen Queyras
In 2009, the Ensemble Resonanz invited Jean-Guihen Queyras to a Haydn evening together, in which the cellist not only performed as a soloist, but also conducted a symphony from the cello podium. They got along so well that the ensemble chose Jean-Guihen Queyras as artist in residence. The partnership lasted three years, and the first joint CD is a testament to the chemistry between the musicians: Schönberg's »Verklärte Nacht«, which also opened the 12/13 resonance season, and the version of Berg's »Lyric Suite« for string orchestra. Two key works on the threshold of modernity, which opened the door wide for the future and at the same time throw a wistful look back at the 19th century.
»The Ensemble Resonanz offers a bristling, fiery interpretation here, as well as a full-blooded performance of Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht.«
