»Ernste Lieder« & »Lieder mit Klavier« with Matthias Goerne
Singing in dark times. From Vienna in the 1920s and Berlin during the Weimar Republic to his emigration to the USA, from his return to Vienna after the end of the Nazi era to his last days in East Berlin: Hanns Eisler's life was a long one Exile in the face of the artistic, technical and political upheavals of the 20th century. Distance, irony and melancholy are the aesthetic consequences that also characterize the selection of the songs presented here. Its tone is often reminiscent of the desperation of dark times, while the early piano sonata certainly earned the young Eisler a lasting admiration to this day.
