»with a fresh approach, unusual and contemporary«

»A shining star in jazz, an underdog in the concert hall: the saxophone plays many roles. Asya Fateyeva plays the instrument with a fresh approach, unusual and contemporary.« Spiegel

Program

Johann Sebastian Bach, »Air« from Ouvertüre Nr. 3 BWV 1068

Rafiq Bhatia, Glimmers*

Rhiannon Giddens, At the purchaser’s option with variations*

Luciano Berio, »Chemin IV (su Sequenza VII)« for Soprano Saxophone and strings

Franz Schubert, Sonata a-minor D821 »Arpeggione«, arranged for Alto-Saxophone and strings by Asya Fateyeva and Dobrinka Tabakova

*from the archive »50 for the future« of the Kronos Quartet, arranged by Ensemble Resonanz

A program spinning a bow from a saxophone version of Schubert's Arpeggione over Sandeep Bhagwati's concept of »comprovisation« to famous contemporary rewritings as from Berio's »Sequenza«. Infused by findings from Kronos Quartet's open source-archive »50 for the future«: orchestrations of works by Man Wu, Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté and Kala Ramnath.

One of the momentous marks that the European musical tradition has left on the musical map of the world in the course of its expansion is the principle of authorship. The question of originality, authenticity and textual correctness plays an important role in the subtle differentiation of interpretative approaches to the compositions of classical music, which constantly produces new experiences. At the same time, upholding and sometimes sanctifying the original text also contributes to the closed nature of the classical music world and can stand in the way of renewal and diversification. In the "»open source« programme, Ensemble Resonanz and Asya Fateyeva search for traces and possibilities of a freer approach to the sources, the material, the work.
