Judith Weir (*1954) - was once the only woman to study composition at the famous King's College in Cambridge, and today she is one of the best known in her profession.

Judith Weir's compositional focus is on vocal and stage works; she has also written orchestral works and chamber music. She is the composer and librettist of several operas (King Harald's Saga, The Black Spider, A Night at the Chinese Opera, The Vanishing Bridegroom and Blond Eckbert). Judith Weir eschews avant-garde techniques in her works and instead makes use of an extended tonality. She draws on influences from folk music from various traditions, such as the Scottish piobaireachd, a form of variation based on a limited, pentatonic range of intervals, or forms of expression from Chinese theatre.

Joanna Marsh (*1970) - Described in The Guardian as »one of today’s leading composers for the voice«, award-winning British composer Joanna Marsh has since 2007 divided her life between Dubai and the UK.

Joanna’s life in the Middle East has led to many unique musical opportunities including writing an orchestral work to celebrate the building of the Burj Khalifa, a commission for the BBC Symphony Orchestra for the BBC Proms in Dubai, and a fanfare for the Queen’s visit to Abu Dhabi. Her first opera, a collaboration with librettist David Pountney entitled My Beautiful Camel, was also inspired by Dubai life.
